Here are some guidelines to clean eyes properly:
- If something is stuck in your eyes, they will most likely tear up. Close your eyes and wipe away the tears gently. Do not rub your eyes with a tissue; instead, gently dab them.
- To see what’s stuck in your eyes, simply pull your lower eyelid down and look around slowly. To determine what is stuck, do not use any object, such as an ear bud. It is preferable to have a family member or friend check to see if anything has settled there.
- Make sure your hands are clean before cleaning your eyes. Hands should be washed with soap and warm water before wiping with a clean towel.
