How to change Siri voice in iOS 14.5: Four new voices

Apple’s Siri assistant’s default voice was stereotypically female, until currently. According to research, making AI assistants switch to female-sounding voices can perpetuate negative assumptions, so Apple has attempted to address this in iOS 14.5 – this is how we are led towards how to change Siri voice.

When you get a new phone with iOS 14.5, you’ll be asked to choose a default Siri voice, and Apple is offering two new choices. You won’t have to wait if you’ve already upgraded your phone to 14.5. This tutorial will show you how to adjust the voice after you’ve set everything up.

To learn how to change Siri voice is a fairly straightforward procedure. To activate Siri Voice, go to the Settings app, then to Siri & Search, and then to Siri Voice. There will be a list of choices for you to choose from.

A snippet of a voice stating “Hi, I’m Siri” will play when you tap on it. Select the voice you want me to use.” If you select voices 1–3, your phone would download them before you can access them, but you don’t have to wait in the Settings app when this happens. Once it’s finished downloading, Siri will answer back with your selected voice.

If you’ve recently upgraded to macOS 11.3, go to System Preferences, then Siri, to choose from the latest choices. You can then pick the voice you would like to use.
