The year 2020 was when most of us went from dining out with friends and family to sharing ideas about what kind of TV show or film to watch next. One way to suit everyone’s taste is to try the Disney Bundle, a streaming pack consisting of Disney Plus, ESPN Plus, and Hulu, for children, adults, and sports fans. Both of these platforms provides a slew of streaming choices, so you get a lot of bang for your buck for a $12.99-a-month price tag. At a rate of $6.99 a month or $69.99 a year, you can also opt for Disney Plus only. Let’s head towards the best streaming shows on Disney Plus, Hulu, and ESPN Plus.
Happiest Season (Hulu)
There is definitely a fair share of rom-com cliches and themes in Happiest Season, but I would say that it is one of the best streaming shows on Hulu. Abby (Kristen Stewart) is about to go home with her girlfriend Harper (Mackenzie Davis) to join her family in the happiest season. The issue? Harper didn’t suggest she’s gay to her friends.
I found the film itself to be quite hilarious, although the plot is quite straightforward. The whole cast is just amazing. (Daniel Levy is the best element of this film without giving any spoilers away, taking every shot he’s in.) I’d pay top dollar to see a film featuring Levy and co-star Mary Holland.
The Proud Family (Disney Plus)
I know, placing an earlier animated TV series on this list is quite strange, but The Proud Family, which initially aired from 2001 to 2005, is a very great show. (Please do, if you haven’t watched it already.) I’ve been rewatching it recently because of the themes and subjects it explores, I found the show aged quite well. Now is a perfect time to experience the original series in all its elegance, with a revival series confirmed this year, coming specifically to Disney Plus in 2021.
The Mandalorian (Disney Plus)
The Mandalorian’s Season 2 premiered this year, and it’s just as nice as the first season, if not better. Picking up where season 1 left off, Mando is charged with getting Baby Yoda Grogu back to his house, but that turns out to be harder than it seems, of course. The second season adds a lot of action, laughs, and the appearance of roles like Ahsoka Tano and Boba Fett from famous Star Wars. It is one of the best streaming shows on Disney plus.
Lego Star Wars Holiday Special (Disney Plus)
Look no further if you’re searching for new Star Wars stuff this year: the Lego Star Wars Holiday Special has been launched by Disney. The holiday-themed short, set after The Rise of Skywalker, follows a Lego version of Rey as she and her friends plan for the Life Day. To try to bring equilibrium to these timelines and discover a deeper understanding of the Force, Rey stumbles upon a Jedi Temple and sets out on a cross-timeline quest. It is one of the popular streaming shows on Disney plus.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars (Disney Plus)
When the final season was released this year on Disney Plus, Dave Filoni’s Star Wars: The Clone Wars eventually got a proper ending. The show gives a lot of information on what happened during this fictitious three-year war, centered on the intergalactic war between the Galactic Republic and the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Several prominent roles from the prequel movies are present, namely Darth Maul, Anakin Skywalker, and Yoda. Now is a good time to catch up with all the shows on Disney’s streaming service, with a lot of more Star Wars series and films on the way.
11.22.63, a sci-fi thriller initially appeared in 2016, is a Hulu restricted series based on Stephen King’s novel 11/22/63. The show stars James Franco as Jake Epping, a Maine English teacher who is convinced by his childhood friend to go back in time to prevent President John F. Kennedy from being assassinated.
The show has a lot of fantastical stuff, and while I find its rules to be incredibly weird and undoubtedly complicated for time travel, 11.22.63 is worth a watch. From anxious and on the edge of your seat to curious about what’s next, it hits the right emotional levels. There are some really dramatic moments, too, which could just make you cry. Its theme and characters make it one of the best streaming shows on Hulu.
I watched the Animaniacs, one of the best streaming shows on Hulu, all the time, like a little kid. From the cheerful musical numbers such as the song of the US Presidents to the amusing mishaps of the Warner siblings, one of my best childhood experiences is this children’s show. I was so happy to learn about a revival series, obviously. I really loved the parodies and humor in the original series, and with the revival series running during a radically specific political and social atmosphere, I just had to see what the writers would poke fun at.
Hamilton (Disney Plus)
They likely remember the controversy over how Disney removed two occurrences of the F-bomb from the musical as most viewers think of Hamilton on Disney Plus. But aside from jokes, Hamilton is a fantastic stage musical, and Disney Plus is attempting to fill the gap since 2020 has kept many of us indoors and unable to see live entertainment. It is a must-watch. Hamilton maintains its conspicuous stance in this best shows list when it comes to the best streaming shows.
Star Wars Rebels (Disney Plus)
Star Wars Rebels, set five years before the occurrences of A New Hope, is an animated series that centers on a diverse crew of starships as they attempt to battle the Galactic Empire. If you love the Star Wars movies, it’s a good show to watch and are searching for some content that extends the lore of this futuristic interstellar universe further.
O.J.: Made In America (ESPN Plus)
Part of me actually wished to put Quest for the Stanley Cup in this position as a Washington Capitals fan, but I can appreciate the reality that not everybody enjoys hockey, let alone sports (or the Washington Capitals). Nonetheless, O.J.: Made in America is one of the best streaming shows you can watch if you have ESPN Plus, in my view.
This series of documentaries focuses on O.J. Simpson’s life, from the time he was a rising football star, through his celebrity position, to his fall from popularity when he went to trial for the murder of two women, namely his ex-wife, and eventually to his arrest and conviction in 2007 for committing robbery.
